United Way of Northeast Missouri Partner Agency
What is RSVP
Heartland RSVP is a proactive volunteer clearinghouse that recruits and connects active adults 55 years of age and over with a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the community. Direct services to the community are provided through RSVP Signature Projects.
Who Are Our Volunteers?
The over 100 men and women 55 years of age and over that come through RSVP's doors each year represent a cross-section of Northeast Missouri's diverse communities. They are people like you who have a little more time and a lot more experience to give - and the energy and passion to make a difference.
Where Do Our Volunteers Serve?
Our partners range from volunteer run charities such as the LaPlata Christian Ministries (which clothes and feeds needy families in NE Missouri), Pantry of Adair County, and health care facilities, Kirksville Manor Care Center, LaPlata Nursing Home, Twin Pines Adult Care Center to organization's such as Missouri SHIP and the NEMO Senior Citizen Nutrition Program, NEMO Area Agency on Aging in Kirksville. Our cadres of community volunteers serve as volunteers in schools, community centers, hospitals, museums - 21 community organizations!
Why Do Heartland RSVP Volunteers Get Involved?
Many Heartland RSVP volunteers have lived in their communities for a long time. Because the community has given them so much, they see serving as a way to give something back. Heartland RSVP volunteers discover that when they give, they gain a lot too. Studies show that seniors who volunteer live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
What Do Heartland RSVP Volunteers Do?
Heartland RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve. Many continue the type of work they enjoyed earlier in life, while others try something completely different. As an RSVP volunteer you might serve meals at a local nutrition center, prepare a tax return for a senior citizen, or apply for Medicare Extra Help for a retiree with a modest income.
